The story of Livingseeds started here in South Africa with a young boy who was always collecting seeds of all shapes and sizes to keep in a wooden box, with the romantic dream of germinating them one day. His life-long affair with the plant world evolved from growing bulbs, to orchids, to indigenous trees, then growing healthy veggies and food for his family. His vision now is to keep the heritage of Heirloom seeds alive so that we will always have access to seeds that have not been genetically tampered with or patented.

Livingseeds grow 90% of the seeds they sell personally on their property and believe that an Heirloom seed is a seed that has a history of exchange, is open pollinated, and has not been genetically modified or patented. They also believe that preserving this heritage is critical to our food security and future. Since 1994, their selection of seeds has been steadily growing and now lists over 400 varieties.
