Disappointed as I was, since I truly wanted to add spirulina to my diet, I contacted the Superfoods manufacturer and was told by Peter Daniel that The iodine in spirulina as in any food is organically bound iodine so is
very unlikely to cause a reaction.
Elemental iodine is found in iodine supplements or foods fortified with iodine and will cause issues.
