01 Apr Choose Sustainable Living This Earth Month
Earth Month is a great time to reflect on our relationship with the planet we call home. Every year, we’re reminded of the importance of taking care of our environment, and one of the best ways we can do this is by choosing to live sustainably. Choosing sustainable living is made easier with FtN, and it is truly the greatest gift we can give to our planet. We can all strive towards it in our daily lives, no matter how small our actions may seem.
At FtN, our commitment to Mother Earth is at the forefront of everything we do. We believe in taking responsibility for our impact on the environment, from our supply chain to our warehouse and beyond. Our waste-free warehousing is just one way we put this commitment into practice. Our B-Corp certification is another way we uphold rigorous social and environmental responsibility standards. We hold ourselves accountable for our actions and work hard to ensure that our business practices align with our values. We are also proud to offer carbon-neutral shipping, which means that your deliveries will not have a negative impact on the planet. We understand the importance of taking action to reduce our carbon footprint, and we are always looking for ways to improve our sustainability efforts. We believe that small changes can make a big difference.
Sustainable living is the practice of making mindful changes in our daily lives to positively impact the planet and our carbon footprint. We’ve chosen five practical swops you can implement in your daily life to help make a difference this Earth Month and beyond.
Takeaway cups → Reusable Coffee Cup
It’s estimated that 500 billion takeaway coffee cups are produced globally every year, and most end up in landfills. FtN’s Insulated Coffee Cup is here to help you reduce single-use cups when out and about. The sturdy, double-walled design will keep your hot tea and coffee warm for longer, while the cup will last for years to come.
Clingwrap → Beeswax Wraps
Cling wrap cannot be recycled because it is a complex plastic made with chemicals that are difficult to remove during recycling. This means that every roll of clingwrap that has ever been used has landed up in a landfill. Beeswax wraps are a great alternative that are versatile, reusable, washable, and compostable.
Plastic shopping bags → Reusable bags
Plastic bags are used for an average of 12 minutes, but a single plastic bag has a life expectancy of up to 1,000 years. By choosing to shop with reusable bags, you can reduce this waste and choose a more sustainable lifestyle. Our FtN Cotton & Jute Bag is a durable and reusable grocery bag made of certified organic and fairtrade cotton with jute grown with chemical pesticides or fertilizers.
Body washes → Soap bars
A 2009 Swiss study found that the carbon footprint of liquids is about 25% larger than that of bar soaps on a per-wash basis. Liquid soap requires five times more energy to produce and nearly 20 times more energy to package, and we use about seven times more liquid soap than bar soap for each hand wash. Bar soap usually comes packaged in a recyclable box, and once you’re done using it, there’s nothing left to throw away. This makes them a more earth-friendly choice.
Plastic toothbrushes → Bamboo toothbrushes
Approximately 1 billion plastic toothbrushes are thrown out each year in the United States alone. Plastic toothbrushes are difficult to recycle as they usually contain several types of plastic. Meanwhile, the nylon bristles – another form of plastic – and are not yet recyclable. Choosing a bamboo toothbrush with recyclable bristles is a great small effort you can make to help reduce your environmental impact.
Every little bit counts, so making conscious changes towards a more sustainable lifestyle is something we can all actively work towards.
