Let’s be honest, nobody likes popping chemical-laden tablets or swigging sticky cough syrup to stave off colds and ‘flu. Immune-boosting smoothies are a healthier, tastier way to keep winter bugs at bay; these smoothie recipes are packed with fruit, veggies and organic spices to help you heal, and keep you strong.
We’ve put together some of our favourite ‘flu-fighting smoothie recipes, to help you and your family take on the colder months with fewer sniffles and sneezes. From sweet to fruity to spicy, there’s a flavour to suit everyone – and they’re all packed with nutritional goodness. Enjoy!
These smoothies are all so easy to make – simply combine all your ingredients in a high-powered blender, and process until smooth. (Hint: if your blender isn’t designed to crush ice cubes, you can replace the ice with chilled liquid instead).
Power-Packed Fruity Coconut Smoothie
Makes 2 servings
Ingredients:
- 2 cups coconut water
- 1 small slice ginger, peeled
- ½ lime, peeled
- ½ cup blueberries
- 1 handful kale
- 1 apple
- 1 cup pineapple chunks
- 1 cup cherries
- 6 dates
- ¼ cup raw honey
- 1tsp Ceylon cinnamon
- 1 banana
- 1tsp chia seeds
- 1Tbsp green smoothie mix (optional)
Strawberry Citrus Smoothie
Makes 1 serving
Ingredients:
- ½ cup almond milk
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, chopped
- 1 orange, peeled
- 2-3 large kale leaves
- 1Tbsp raw honey
- Handful of ice cubes
Flu-Fighting Pomegranate Smoothie for Kids
Makes 2 small servings
Ingredients:
- 1 cup natural pomegranate juice
- 1 cup kale leaves
- 1 cup frozen or fresh berries (blueberries, strawberries & raspberries)
- 1Tbsp flax seed or flax meal
Spicy Carrot Smoothie
Makes 1 serving
Ingredients:
- 1 cup filtered water
- 1 large carrot, washed, with skin
- 1 large wedge of papaya
- ½ orange, peeled
- ½ lemon
- 1 cup ice cubes
- 1 small slice ginger, peeled
- 1tsp chia seeds
- 1tsp turmeric
- ¼tsp cayenne pepper
