Baked Kale Chips
This recipe uses natural, vegan-friendly ingredients to give you a zesty, “cheesy” flavour to your kale chips.
Ingredients:
- ½ to 1 bunch kale leaves
- ½Tbsp extra virgin olive oil (or melted coconut oil)
- 1½Tbsp nutritional yeast
- 1tsp garlic powder
- ½tsp onion powder
- ½tsp smoked paprika
- Pinch of pink Himalayan salt
- Pinch of chili powder
- Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
Method:
- Preheat oven to 300°F (148°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper & set aside.
- Remove the kale stems. Rinse & spin dry, then tear the kale into bite-size pieces. Leave the pieces to air out.
- Combine the kale & oil in a large bowl. Massage the oil well into the leaves until they’re completely coated.
- Mix the dry ingredients together in a smaller bowl.
- Add the dry mix to the coated kale; toss to combine.
- Spread the kale over your prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes, rotate the pan, then bake for another 12-15 minutes until the leaves start to shrink & look crispy.
- Allow the kale to cool for a few minutes.
- Serve, munch & enjoy!
Raw Kale Chips
The raw kale recipe is very similar, but uses a dehydration process instead of oven-baking so it’s suitable for raw foodists.
Ingredients:
- 1 large bunch kale, rinsed
- 1 cup cashew nuts, soaked
- 1 red bell pepper, seeded & chopped
- 3-4Tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1Tbsp agave
- 2Tbsp nutritional yeast
- ¼tsp onion powder
- ¼tsp turmeric powder
- ½tsp pink Himalayan salt
Method:
- Soak the cashews for about 2-3 hours beforehand.
- Remove the kale stems. Rinse & spin dry, then tear the kale into bite-size pieces. Leave the pieces to air out.
- Blend all other ingredients in a food processor until smooth.
- Combine the kale & blended mixture in a large bowl; mix well using your hands to ensure all the kale leaves are coated.
- Place the kale on a tray in your dehydrator; dehydrate overnight at 118°, until the coating is dry.
- Slide the kale onto a mesh screen in your dehydrator; dehydrate until the leaves are crispy.
- Serve, munch & enjoy!
