08 Aug The Why & How of Chia Seeds
As with many other superfoods Chia was considered more valuable than gold to the Aztecs. Considering that it outperforms even Flax seeds in its omega-3 content and in price, & that it is an almost complete food, providing essential protein, fats and carbohydrates, as well as a wide array of vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants, it’s easy to see why! Chai provides anti-aging benefits, due to the potent anti-oxidants it is packed with. It also aids the digestive system & helps to stabilise blood sugars. The combination of essential fats, fibre and protein make Chia an excellent food for improving endurance and fitness. It also has the ability to help keep the body hydrated and electrolytes balanced.
So How best to Use Chai Seeds?
The taste of chia is very mild and pleasant and it can be easily combined with other foods without altering the taste dramatically. Chia can be used as a gel or in its whole seed form. Add it to smoothies, mix it in with salad dressings, puddings or sauces or simply eat it by the spoonful.
The most common way to eat chia is to first soak the seeds. They rapidly absorb a large amount of liquid, between 9-12 times their volume, in under 10 minutes.
